hot nutella with toasted marshmallows

hot nutella with toasted marshmallows

What has four ingredients, takes five minutes to make, is rich, warm, chocolatey, and even better than a cup of hot cocoa? Allow us to introduce you to this glorious and comforting drink: hot Nutella with toasted marshmallows. Our original plan was to post a fancy layered holiday cake today, but as we learned this weekend, it still needs work before we can share it. We spent all of Sunday baking, then ended up throwing the entire failcake in the trash after taking just a few bites, so it will have to wait till next year! When deciding what to make instead, the thought of something quick and easy sounded most appealing after this long and disappointing cake fiasco. We were in the kitchen discussing ideas, and in a moment of inspiration, Adam suggested, “What if instead of hot chocolate… it was hot Nutella?” We knew immediately that this was the ideal treat to share with you this week: simple to make, sweet, indulgent, and perfect for the holidays. With quick and easy toasted marshmallows—it takes literally 30 seconds in the broiler—and an option to spike these hot drinks with a splash of liquor, they satisfy adults and kids alike!

thai iced tea

pouring the cream

Thai iced tea is one of our favorite drinks. It is smooth, refreshing, and delicious. Recently, we set out on a mission to find the best recipe so we could make this exotic drink ourselves. Not only did we discover how to make the tea just as creamy and flavorful as the original, but we also learned some interesting things along the way. We were thrilled to find out how easy it is to make this at home. It cooks in just ten minutes, and most of the ingredients we already had on hand. Also, we were surprised to learn that the traditional orange color is nothing more than artificial dye. Thankfully, this additive is not necessary, and our simple version of this delicious beverage uses only fresh, natural ingredients. Here, robust black tea is steeped with cinnamon, sugar, vanilla, whole cloves, and star anise, then chilled, served over a tall glass of ice, and generously topped with a rich swirl of cream and sweet condensed milk.

sangria

sangria

We make this traditional sangria recipe any chance we get during the summer, and every time it is a huge hit. This cool and refreshing Spanish drink made an appearance at every outdoor party and family event when Ryan was growing up, as it is one of his dad’s signature specialties. The deep burgundy wine blends with freshly-squeezed oranges and lemons, a splash of sparkling club soda, slices of colorful fruit, and just a hint of sugar to make an irresistibly delicious beverage that is so satisfying on a hot summer day.

ginger tea with lemon and honey

ginger tea with lemon and honey for two

For the past few weeks, it has been bitterly cold here in Los Angeles, dipping to bone-chilling temperatures in the 60’s, and grey overcast skies lasting the entire day. We’ve even had to wear jackets! But thankfully, we have a comforting recipe for a hot cup of ginger tea infused with golden honey and freshly squeezed lemon that warms the soul and soothes the senses, whether you live in LA or somewhere with a more… aggressive climate.
