The headlines these days can be… shall we say, a little dreary? Well today we are brightening things up and have some tasty news to share. cinnamon-sugar monkey bread

cinnamon-sugar monkey bread

Would you believe us if we told you there is a homemade bread you don’t have to knead, there are absolutely no thermometers involved, and the prep takes just five minutes? If we were to expand further, mentioning that this masterpiece exhibits a perfectly crispy, buttery crust, and the most pillow-soft, delicious chewy interior, you might think we were making this all up.

blubarb muffins

blubarb muffins

This post was created in partnership with Kroger. All opinions are our own.

Somebody please send help. We may have just set a world record for the most muffins consumed in one week by two husbands. The problem first became apparent once we started canceling all our plans just to stay home and continue eating muffins all day. To be honest, we should have known what we were getting ourselves into before making that fateful phone call last Tuesday. We were in a muffin-kind-of-mood and called on the Queen of Baking for a recipe: we knew that Rebecca Firth (www.displacedhousewife.com) would be the one to masterfully mentor our muffin manifestations, and upon regaining consciousness after the first bite, it was clear we had made the correct decision. So please continue reading at your own risk: blubarb muffins are extremely habit-forming and may cause a serious muffin dependency.

strawberry glazed donuts

strawberry glazed donuts

We have been getting a fair amount of exercise lately taking long walks around the neighborhood, but unfortunately we keep running into the same problem. We live just one mile from our favorite pizza shop, and every time we pass by, those intense Italian aromas lure us right in. Every time. They offer perfectly thin slices of New York-style pizza, with unique options like fresh pesto and their signature spicy mole sauce. It is difficult to resist these inviting temptations, but that’s just part of the dilemma. Next door to this pizza paradise just so happens to be one of our favorite ice cream shops, which is a delightful way to cleanse the palate after a savory slice of pizza. And for dessert (because ice cream doesn’t count, obviously), we take just two steps to the next shop over, which conveniently sells the best donuts in town. So you see, we have been getting exercise, but somehow we have been gaining weight in the process. We tried to be good today and not venture out for our daily walk, but ended up getting ourselves into a bit of trouble in the kitchen as you can tell from the title above. And what tasty trouble it was: may we present to you strawberry glazed donuts.

chocolate avocado pudding

chocolate avocado pudding

For those of you who made it past the unexpected title, welcome! You are in for a treat. One of our favorite restaurants to visit on special occasions is The Stinking Rose. They are famous for menu items like their 40-clove garlic chicken, but since we are both vegetarian, we choose from the array of garlicky pasta selections on the menu. The meal officially begins when the server delivers bagna cauda to the table: a hot iron skillet sizzling with roasted garlic which spreads onto crusty slices of baguette like smooth butter. If you still have room after the main course, you cannot leave without trying their famous garlic ice cream with caramel molé sauce. As odd as it may sound, it is actually quite delicious, and from this eclectic eating experience we have learned to not judge a dessert by its title. While some of you may think that mixing avocado and chocolate is sacrilege, let us assure you it is quite the opposite. In fact, if you didn’t know there was actually avocado in this chocolatey dessert we are sharing today, you would probably never guess. With just eight simple ingredients, this creamy no-bake pudding is here to shock your mind and your mouth.
